Day 2

  • What did you do today?
    • Briefly describe your day’s activities
      • Today, we extracted the color coating of the M&M chocolate candy.
    • Include at least one photograph from today
  • What did you learn today?
    • Discuss any learning points from today’s activities
      • Today, what I learnt was to extract colors from M&Ms, and applied knowledge from Secondary 1 Chemistry - Acid and Bases. The knowledge was vital because we needed to know how to change the pH level of the solution to 'draw' out the color from the wool. Also, we had to perform chromatography on the colors from the M&Ms, as well as on the standard colors so we could analyse.
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
    • Describe how the project has affected your understanding of the discipline and how it may be applied elsewhere
    • Share your insights for the day
      • This project brought me to understand discipline better. Learning to refrain from trying to experience everything at once was a part of it. Learning to have patience and let the chromatograph develop was also another part! But all in all, it was extremely fun to gain new knowledge as well as build on what I had already learnt.
  • What new questions do you have regarding the discipline?
